Chaplaincy
Chaplaincy at Red Cross Children’s Hospital
Our Chaplaincy Service is active at Red Cross Children’s War Memorial Hospital and offers Grief Support outside of the hospital arena as well. Through our active Chaplaincy Service at Red Cross Children’s War Memorial Hospital we realised the need for extra support for patients and their families. We started developing & distributing supportive resources aimed to help the sickly patients and also the loved ones at their bedside. This then progressed into the development & distribution of supportive resources for grieving parents and eventually inspired the establishment of our Grief Support Group and our Chaplaincy Training Program.
Having resources, we can offer our patients allows us to fulfil this amanah in a purposeful manner. We have developed products like our Trust Bus and Names of Allah cards, and also published literature resources such as our booklet; Your Child Your Jannah, and our Grief Guides covering a wide range aspects related to grief to facilitate the healing process. We hope to make all our resources available in all 3 official languages of South Africa.
Being a small group of female muslim chaplains there is a great need for muslim chaplains especially males. We have thus developed a Chaplaincy Training Program to facilitate the expansion of Islamic Chaplaincy in Cape Town and hope to expand our chaplaincy service to other hospitals and community institutions. Zakat donations are channelled here when there is a need for financial support as many of the families we engage are eligible and do fit the criteria.
