Youth Development
Schools in impoverished areas are faced with many challenges as learners need so much more support to benefit from the educational framework available to them. Many of these learners suffer trauma daily and don’t have their basic needs met within the home environment and subsequently attend school with many psycho-emotional and nutritional barriers. To facilitate the learning process WOHSA strives to support schools via educational programs and feeding schemes. We focus on the education of self-help tools such as spirituality, self love & being future focused. Bramble Way Primary is the first school where our Life Skills Program was implemented where we focus on mindfulness and personal development with the Grade 4 and Grade 7 learners. We are currently in the process of expanding into other schools and madaaris, where these programs are much needed. Madrassatul Huda, is our first madrasaa, where we launched our Teens for Teens Mentorship Program this year. We facilitate these programs with the collaborative support of our partners and individuals with the expertise.
We identified the need for supportive resources to reinforce the concepts taught in our programs and thus embarked on the design and development of the following items;
- Trust Bus – re-enforces the concept of trusting God and being the driver of one’s bus
- Gratitude Tree – re-enforces the concept of gratitude and having a positive mindset
- Diamond lapel – re-enforces the concept of self-love, self-worth and being loved and valued by God.
These resources are produced locally and facilitates job creation, contributing to our economy. They are available for purchase and can be sponsored as well.
